What is oocyte donation?

It is a totally anonymous act which will help another woman that can not become a mother with her own cells, and thanks to the oocytes received from other women she may become so.

What requirements must I meet to become a donor?


The requirements to be met by donors include being between 18 and 35 years old, having a proper physical and mental health and lack of any clinical history of hereditary diseases.

How is the donor selection  process?


The donor selection process will be include a clinical study or analysis, as well as a psychological test. In this sense, potential donors will undergo a complete gynaecological study, blood analysis, study of infectious diseases and a genetic study. If the results are normal, the donor will be accepted as a participant in the oocyte donation program.
The above mentioned study or analysis is free of charge to the donor.

Does the treatment have any physical risk?


Like any other clinical intervention, oocyte donation is made under an individualized medical control in order to monitor the health of the donor as well as to minimize any risk that might arise in the process. This individualized monitoring provides that complications are rare.
From the beginning of the oocyte donation process, the donor will have advice and personalized attention 24 hours a day.

Can I donate when taking birth control?


Yes, but the treatment  will have to cease during the process of oocyte donation, since the purpose of oocyte donation process is producing more oocytes and contraceptives have the opposite effect.

Is there some kind of financial compensation?


Yes, the donor will be financially compensated for expenses and inconvenience incurred. Such compensation is subject to the Spanish Law on Assisted Reproduction and the Spanish Society of Fertility.

How many times can I donate?

The number of cycles depends on many factors, but the maximum number of children born in Spain from the same donor oocytes can not be more than 6, according to the Law of Assisted Reproduction.

What is the purpose of donated oocytes?

The donated oocytes are used exclusively to help women and couples who need them.

Can donors meet the children born by this technique?

No. The law expressly forbids it, so neither donors can meet the children born nor children can meet donors.

What are the positive aspects of the donation?


Among other aspects, this procedure involves a generous act towards another woman who can not be a mother. Besides, the procedure also helps the donor to learn about their gynecological and reproductive health
